Default Just bought a Yamaha 2011 and have a few questions

I just bought a pretty stock Yamaha 2011 drive. It’s in really good shape but has a little rust on the frame. Would it be best to sand that down now and paint it before it gets any worse? It seems to just be surface rust. Also, it only goes about 10mph (11 down hill) which I feel is pretty slow. It has almost brand new Trojan batteries in it (6 8v). They’re dated December 2018. What can I do to get it around 20 mph the most effective way?

Thank you for any help.

I would take care of the rust now, before it gets worse. A good idea. I like to use some rust converter after wire brushing it down, and then spray it with some black paint.

There are two ways to speed it up – you can get a dealer to put a PTV code in that controller which will get you up to about 19.5 mph, OR, you can get an Alltrax controller from Scotty at cartsunlimited.net and get around 22 mph with stock motor and tires, and have flexibility to program it as desired.

I would do the entire Riot kit from plowmans. I did just the controller and my motor was toast in a year. The plowman kit has EVERYTHING you need. Save the money and spend it the right way. My.02c
