Sand it down with whatever grit works without causing more scratches. If there is red still showing in places I would not worry about it. Sometimes it just ain't coming off. Sand it smooth and lay a couple coats of primer on it. (I use Rustoleum or Krylon auto primer) Sand that, might need a third coat to help fill in small spots. Of course, you have a lot of gouges to deal with too. Hope this helps. |

Re: Paint or actual plastic can’t tell
The paint in furniture stripper is the same stuff thats in the aerosol can. But you can completely coat the entire cart in about 2 minutes with aerosol. You'll be painting forever. Aerosol is the way to go, hands down. Shop around, home depot, lowes, ace... tractor supply is where I get it because they always have it in stock at my store.

Re: Paint or actual plastic can’t tell
The stuff I usually get comes in a gold can, but packaging may have changed that's basically the same stuff. Little pricier, I usually pay around $7/can but even if it's more expensive, it's still worth it in the hassle you save trying to "paint" on the gel stuff. I've tried several different methods and the aerosol is the way to go.
And a good pressure washer. I just take the body on a saw horse out in the yard. Spray the stripper on, wait 15-20 minutes and blast it with a 15° nozzle on my pressure washer. Makes quick work of the process and makes sure you get all the stripper off clean |
