acceleration problem when warm? Please help I'm desperate!
Hi Guys,
I live in Guernsey in the channel islands and I've got the only golf car over here! Having a bit of an issue though... She starts ok (takes a while) and runs/revs fine for a while, but then once she's hot, anywhere from 5 mins to 1hr later, she starts to splutter and die under acceleration. I checked the spark and it seems the same whether hot or cold. I've also given the carb a good clean. When i turn the mixture screw though, it doesn't seem to make a difference to the running until it's wound right in, how should i be adjusting this? I'm hoping someone can help, i love the cart but this problem has me totally baffled, I'm dying to be able to use her! Is it worth fixing or should i start trying to shoehorn a bike engine in? Cheers, James |

Welcome Larby,
Set the idle screw at one turn out. When you say 5 mins to an hour, does the run time get shorter when you have more fuel in the tank? If this is the case check the tank venting system or when it starts to sputter stop and open the fuel cap, does it sound of sucking air? Also you need to check the valve adjustment. Give this a shot and let us know. |

Just read your other post from back in May. You can remove the flywheel blower housing without removing the motor from th cart.
It is a bit tricky getting to the 10MM bolts under the S/G and muffler bracket area but have done it. If you have totally ruled out fuel problem then the ignition coil above the flywheel would be my next move. Keep us posted. Mitch |

Re: acceleration problem when warm? Please help I'm desperate!
y'know, I'd totally forgotten about my post back in may!
I've never really had her that full of fuel, but that's an interesting thought, i'll try that opening the top every now and then. Would i see a difference in the spark if it was the coil giving problems? It's almost as though the timing is way out when she splutters? Is there any way to adjust that? I'll have a go at removing that housing, the coild needs to be a business card thickness off the flywheel IIRC right?> Cheers, James |

Timing is not adjustable on those engines.
If you determine it isn't fuel related then I would pull the shroud to replace the coil. Check for loose or grounding wires while you have it off before you get a coil. |

Right, well i'm gonnatake the engine out and give it a good going over now!
Can anyone tell me what the compression should be roughly? I realised my driven clutch was seized, and i broke it trying to loosen it off, also my generator isn't charging so i need to get a new one of those too! James |
