Default Anybody Convert To Key Start???

I really don't like the pedal start on my 90 club car. Could this be converted over to a key start or push button start like on a car? tThat way it will idle fine, and I won't have to monkey with the throttle all the time to start it.

Anybody done this????

No kidding. And maybe move the key to the dash. Love to know who the bozo was who decided to put the key down between their legs.

I converted my 93 CC to start with a button. Open up the electrical box, remove the 2 small screws that hold the 2 switches that are activated with the gas pedal. One switch is for starting and the other is a kill switch. Both must be removed. It should be pretty easy to figure out which switch is which. I bought a nice all metal starter button at Advance Auto Parts for $5. Drilled a hole right next to the shifter, and installed the button. Connect the two wires from the original starter switch to the new starter button, and it worked great on mine. Turn on the key,hit the button,it starts, and with the kill switch removed it will run until the key is turned off.

I'm just curious.... What's the problem with the pedal start?

My cart starts with the pedal... Idles... and shuts off with the key, just by disconnecting 1 wire...

It seems acceptable to me!

Air cooled motor + idle when not moving = heat problems...

I know it's been done, but my question is why?

My 2 cents...

Because we're used to other vehicles that run & idle? My dirt bike will idle without overheating. I doubt we'd be sitting & idling for long periods of time very often. Are they that touchy?

It's your decision I personally don't have an issue with the pedal start, but I guess I'm just used to it. I think that if you have an engine that idlles you'll add wear and tear to your drive belt. After all, that drive clutch will be spinning and the belt will be stationary...

Hey Mike, lots of things use the same drive, and have similar air cooled motors, without any harm. The fan blows air across the cylinder and head when it is idling, just like a riding lawn mower. Generators use the same system, and they don't overheat. I disconnected the seat kill switch on my riding mower, just because I didn't want the motor to shut off every time I had to dismount to move something out of the way. I also didn't want the motor on my GC to stop every time I took my foot off the gas. Personal preference.
