G9 differential/transmission
Had my G9 jacked up the other day to tweak the throttle cable reroute mod. I noticed that when I accelerated the cart, only the right wheel would spin. The left would rotate a few degrees, but that is it. Now, while driving, I am pretty sure only the right side drives - I never spin the left side. Is this normal? How does one check proper performance? After all, we ALL like nice "rear ends".

Re: G9 differential/transmission
I would guess the left brake is dragging. The diff is open like a car, I would guess if it broke the cart would not go at all. The left does not spin as much due to driver weight. Sit in the middle and they should even out, I do that in snow and when pulling my boat out.

Re: G9 differential/transmission
So just what are you saying about my weight?
LOL. Hadn't thought about the fact that while driving, there's more weight there. Guess I need to jack it up again, and hold the left and see what the right does, and check the freedom of movement of that right hub (brake). The "book" doesn't hardly say anything. |

Re: G9 differential/transmission
Carts are about 600lb, so if you weigh 200lb you are 1/3 the weight of the cart easily enough to affect handling/weight distribution/etc. They always roll over more easily if you turn hard right compared to left, all assuming you don't have a passenger of course. I actually run about 3lb more pressure in the left rear than the right, and almost half that in the fronts. Maybe 15/12/7/7. Less in the rears if I want to give up some topend for an easier ride. That with 22" trail pro tires. I'd jack it up by hand and turn the rear tires, see if they move easily they should. When you back up the left should spin easier, much like a rwd car will. The trans will turn the tire that is easiest to turn. I don't know your weight, but you are the one asking questions about your own rear end lol

Re: G9 differential/transmission
I understand open differentials (hey, I watched My Cousin Vinnie) but always thought that they would both spin with it up on jacks. It runs fine, makes no noise, so I'm not a gonna sweat it. Appreciate all your inputs. I've gotten some good info on this board.

Re: G9 differential/transmission
When jacked up it usually means the side that stays still is harder to turn from dragging brakes, stiffer bearing seal, etc. However if you can't turn it by hand easily then you should fix whatever is stopping it.

Re: G9 differential/transmission
And it is spinning twice as fast. When off the ground the one stands still and the other spins twice as fast as the speedometer reads, you can explode a tire revving a car up in the air.

Re: G9 differential/transmission
I know when I took mine out the other day, my right tire would spin alot faster than the left (driving in a foot of snow). When my friend got on with me they spun more the same.
