Is there a way to clean valves
Is there a way to clean the valves without puuling the cylinder head? I have heard of using this "sea foam" but may have side effects.
I think I may have a valve sticking open or shut. Is there a "sticky" on how to replace a valve seal and clean out the carbon? If not, can someone give me a quick run down, Thanks. 93 club car DS |

Re: Is there a way to clean valves
I think the only way to do it properly is to pull the head and clean everything. This lets you check everything and be sure, plus you can do the valve seals then.
Having said that, SeaFoam is a terrific product, though. It sure won't hurt to give it a dose of the magic medicine! BLES |

Yes, I think I will pull the head and replace the seals. How would you go about removing the carbon deposits once the head is removed?
Also , Since I don't have a service manual, does anyone know of a good reference for replacing the valve seals? Possible one with pics? |

Re: Is there a way to clean valves
If you just want to change the valve seals a good compression gauge will have adaptors you can screw into the spark plug hole so you can put air on it to hold the valves closed while you replace the seals.
I've even seen people cram a length of soft rope in the plug hole then rotate the piston up to hold the valves in while doing seals. |

sea foam is amazing. I have used it on car engines to clear up sticky valve issues. Just change the oil when your done with the cleaning process.

Re: Is there a way to clean valves
I tried the sea foam and the results were great. Seems to have cleared up the problem with the valves sticking closed. Squirted a bunch in the carb throat w/ a syringe while it was running and then flooded it with seafoam and let it sit for an hour. Also , poured about 4 ounces in fuel tank.
Smoked like a banshi when I started it up . Took for a spin and smoke for 10 mins or so and then cleared up. Looks like I won't need a valve job for the time being. Thanks BGW ! |

Re: Is there a way to clean valves
You did it exactly right that engine is as clean as a whistle inside now. I would still change the oil though..
