Re: Can I ground the field to test the generator? SOLVED!!!
SOLVED!!!
Ok, so here's the story. Generator, OK. Regulator, OK. Connections, all solid. so, why didn't it work??? Well, I just couldn't believe the regulator was the issue when grounding the field produced no charge from the generator. However, all tests on the generator indicated no problem with it, it just did not charge. It did not make sense since it would work as a motor to start the cart. So, as I sat looking at it, trying to understand how it could possibly work as a motor and not generate electric it occurred to me that a DC motor would run regardless of which way the juice was feed into it. This led me to trace back the wires off the generator. Well, A1, the ground and F2 the lead that goes to the solonoid were REVERSED! One of those SOBs that cobbled things before I got it must have had it apart and put it back together wrong! Why was it apart? We will never know. But the moral of the story is, When you get a project that several other people have already failed at, do not assume that ANYTHING and I mean anything, is the way that it should be. After I switched the wires back (which were not original wires or colors) I tested by grounding the field (DF), the voltage started to climb up past 14. I reconnected everything and now it's charging properly. Some dope cost the business that I got this cart off of a lot of money because I paid next to nothing for it. When i got it, it would not even run. I have under $100 invested in parts to bring everything back to normal. I am feeling pretty good right now, think I'll go have a beer! Thanks All ! Jim |
