Default Helping a friend fix his EZ-GO.

The information on this site has been very helpful I have read the troubleshooting guides and the information has been right on. But, I have not been able to get the cart to work and I was looking for some pin-point help.

My problem is the cart will not go. The cart has new batteries, solenoid and new controller 73326-G05. I have checked all the basics, 37.5 V, key switch, f/r switch, charging switch and foot control switch and they all checked out( I checked that right at J1 and J4 plugs). I also check the solenoid and the voltage is 37.5 on the in and 35.5 on the out and I checked power to controller.

The problem is the solenoid does not click when the peddle limit switch is engaged, with F/R switch in F and key in the run position. I did bench test on the solenoid and that works when I applied power. I did check for continuity on the ground side of the solenoid and ground B- and it is open not grounded and I would have thought it should have been grounded so it must get ground from the blue wire I also check for voltage coming from the yellow but nothing. Also the controller is not frame grounded and I would have thought it should have been but I left it as is.

So, what am I missing, why would the controller not energize the solenoid?

Batteries’ (checked)
Key switch (checked)
Limit switch at pedal (checked)
F/R switch (checked)
Charger switch (checked)
Power to controller (checked)
Tow/Run switch (checked)

Thanks for the help.

Better start by informing all of what electrical system is in your friends cart. PDS or DCS?

with a 73326G05 controller it has to be a PDS cart.

What is the diagnostic mode telling you is wrong with the cart?

Just a general note = there is never a frame ground in an electric cart.... no power to the yellow wire at the solenoid activation circuit is your red flag, No?

The reed switch was one of my first tests; I was not sure if it needs to be open or closed. I did try it both ways, by disconnecting the white wire and then by jumping it no luck, I assume that the circuit is normally open.

When I was testing I got to the end tests, and it pointed to the controller.

I talked with my friend and he told me that the controller was purchased as a rebuilt and did not work when he picked it up. I told him to take it back.

So this easy repair got more complicated then I wanted, my words of warning if you buy a used controller make sure it works before paying for it or you might end up with a light weight boat anchor.
