Default How to power accesories?

So I am new to this site and its been very helpful thus far. I apologize for the elementary question but trust me when I say your help is appreciated.

So, I bought my first cart last week, an 02 ezgo PDS, of which I plan to use on the course for years to come. That said, I plan to install at least a radio and lights. My question is simply how do I power these? Do you all run a auxilary battery or wire right into the existing batteries? I dont want to go in the clubhouse for a couple of hours to come out and find my cart dead because the radio was left on.

Thanks for all your help in advance. This should be fun!

The acc can be wired in many ways. The perferred way is to buy a voltage reducer from 36 - 12V and use the battery pack itself.

I have also installed an aux 12V battery in the left side of cart to run accessories.

Or you can use 2 of the 6V batteries.

I perfer the voltage reducer way.

I recently installed a deep cycle marine 12v battery in my TXT to run my lights and radio. I secured it under the driver's seat with a battery tray and ran my accessories to it. The only downside to this is the added weight and the need to hook up an extra charger.

How long does the battery last before needing a charge? Can I get say 12 hours of radio use?

you can run a wire from positive post of aux battery to one battery and a wire from neg post of aux battery to neg post of next battery. This will do 2 things. It will add extra amps to battery pack and than it will charge when you charge cart.

I have done a few carts this way with no ill effect.

There is a third result from this hookup, an imbalance in the battery pack caused by the parallel connection to the aux battery. This method is NOT recommended.

I agree.

Another method which I use is an aux battery charged with a solar charger.

I have the similar question going in another thread...i had my aux marine battery tied to two of the six volts for this exact reason add extra amps and eliminate extra charger...worked great for months..then i blew a control box..i also find that no matter what i do, even with all accessories removed, if the 12 v is tied to two of the sixes..there is stray current +9 or so volts running in the cart chasis?iit makes no sense? ideas anyone...is this why i fried my controller? so now i have two marine 12v on board. totally isolated and with their own charger. in answer to reese dog..a good marine 12v deep cycle should last a long time with just a stereo..provided no amps, subwoofers etc. thx

It all depends on the stereo installed... If you are just using a head unit and some 6x9's it should last a full day on a good charge. If you add in an amp and some subwoofers or run with your lights on for a long peirod of time (if you have your lights hooked to aux battery) then your battery life is going to be reduced quite a bit. I recently played my stereo for around 8 hours and the aux battery held up fine. I also am only using a head unit and two 6x9's for now.

I understand its not recommended. I have a aux 12V in my cart that is completely independent from the pack. I use a 12V charger to charge it. I just said this due to I have had a few customers wanting me to install one this way. One is going on 1.5 years now and teh other 1 year. I have had these cart in for service, and everything seems to be ok. How much longer is it gonna last, I have no idea.
