Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
I have done everything I can think of to correct the engine problem on a 1997 club car (gas) kawasaki FE350D engine. I have rebuilt the carb twice, changed the plug, changed gas to non ethanol, adjusted the air-mix screw. When the engine is started cold it tends to run okay until it warms up then it boggs out when the accelorator is pressed. I've checked the air filter, air box, gas filters etc as well, it stll does the same thing. Any ideas?

Re: Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
it could still be the carb, i have rebuilt plenty of them only to find the carb was just plain worn out, not saying this is a 100% certinty but its quite possible...............................

Re: Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
It sure sounds like a fuel/air mixture problem...
Have you run it in maintenance mode yet? If not... click on the blue link below, and follow my directions on page 2: ~ http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...w-owner-2.html ~ For some reason, I think... either, the carb throttle shaft is worn, or there's an air leak elsewhere, and it's sucking more air then it should, or... just the opposite, The air tube (hose from the air box to the carb) is collapsing and choking the engine. Running the engine in maintenance mode, at part throttle, spray the the edges of the cover on the airbox, the whole air tube, and carb with carb cleaner and see if the engine bogs down, If it does... you have an intake air leak, if not, then check to see if the air tube is collapsing. Sorry... but that's all I've got! |

I agree Tom!
IMO, It's either too much... or not enough air. ..................... ...................... |

Re: Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
Thanks guys Im back at it. When I rebuilt the carb I did not replace the throttle shaft so I will now do that and then run a full check for leaks. I just hope I can rectify the problem, its driving me nuts! By then way anyone know how many turns generally set the air mix screw. Ive read around 2. Also is there suppose to be a change in idle. Ive set it when I hear the idle begin to increase. Am I doing it right?

Re: Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
I would do a compression test just to see if what kind of shape the engine is in before doing anything my 2 cents

Re: Lack of power club car 1997 (gas)
Msher... I know this is bugging you, but don't do things backwards!
Do the tests FIRST before replacing anything! From what I've seen, it's the shaft bushings in the carb body that wear out, not the shaft itself, and it may not even be that, so there's no sense in wasting time and money when it could be something else! I don't have any of my manuals with me, but if I remember correctly, it's 1 to 1 1/2 turns out for the idle mixture screw, and yes, you should stop as the idle just starts to increase. (+ 1/4 turn out?) And a compression test wont hurt anything either! dy77 (again on memory... ) w/o ACR - 165 psi (pedal start vehicles) with ACR - 78 psi (key start vehicles) ACR = Automatic Compression Relief valve Hope you find out what's going on! |
