Batteries will not charge
I just purchased 6 new US2200XC batteries for my golf cart. It is running BEAUTIFULLY except for one thing - it will not charge!! We ran it all afternoon Wednesday and part of Thursday morning, but when I plug in the charger, nothing happens. I took the charger to the place where I bought the batteries and had it "tested", and it kicked right on. They mentioned that there might be a dead battery, but how the heck could that be when they are all brand new. Their tech told me to bypass the controller card on the charger by crossing the two leads with a screwdriver. Now, if it kicks on when I do this, what do I do from there? Does this mean there is a dead battery? And if so, what do I do about it, short of taking the batteries back to the dealer to figure out what's dead?

Re: Batteries will not charge
I suggest you check for 36v at the charge receptacle. Or if working without a meter, physically check that the 2 charger leads are connected properly. White goes to positive.

Re: Batteries will not charge
I reconnected exactly as the old ones were so I believe they are wired correctly. I have no meter to check anything

Re: Batteries will not charge
First thing. Is the cart dead want move. If so the charger isn't going to kick on. You will have to jumper the charger or use a 12 volt charger to put some juice back into the pack.

Re: Batteries will not charge
WON'T not want
No the cart is not dead they have been driving it fine that is why the shop advice they got is so wrong. What is wrong is the way they have the charger wired up on the cart side..... The charger works on the shop cart but not on their cart. Used to work before new batteries? The problem is likely in the cart DC charger wiring...... as long as the cart is able to move under it's own power. |

Some will go to the extreme with it though and you need a freaking decoder ring to figure out what they're saying.

Re: Batteries will not charge
Ok thanks for the info guys. My son is down at our trailer site now. He tried the shop's advice about overriding the controller board - placed screwdriver between the two leads - but still no charging has occurred. The cart DOES run fine, though its initial charge is getting very low obviously.
I reconnected the wires exactly as they were before, positive to the front battery positive terminal, and negative to the back battery negative terminal. If I get a meter, do I disconnect and check each battery individually? Or can I leave them all connected and check? |
