Default Compression is 100 psi, cart still runs rough.

Ok I have an 88 ezgo marathon, that just wont run right. IF i hook up my battery charger and run it at 120 amps it will start the cart and once it is started i runs fine. So i checked the compression and it is around 100 to 102. I have changed the fuel pump and it is getting spark. Any help would be appreciated. tks

100 is about 20 pounds low. your title says it runs rough, you also say once it started it runs fine? to start, you need to check and clean all of your grounds. then i would check your battery. with only 100 pds. it should crank it way fast. you said you changed the fuel pump, but have you checked the output since? pull the line from the carb and make sure you have a steady stream, using just the battery.

Sorry, Should have said doesnt want to start cold. Yes I checked the fuel coming out of the new pump and it is a steady stream. I have taken the carb apart a couple of times and cleaned it. If i getting it going using a my starter/charger or jumping off my truck then i runs fine. If has started to backfire and when it runs it is smoking white/blueish. I also dumped the gas tank and put fresh gas in and installed new inline fuel filter.

Rough running, backfiring, and smoking white/bluish exhaust scream plugged muffler to me. Have you ever BBQd it? I had the same issue, and it cleared up with a good muffler BBQ.

Even at 100 psi the cart should be running OK I think. Not optimal, but not horrible either.

Ok so I remove the muffler to bbq it, while i have it off i figure ill try to run it without it, If the muffler is plugged hmm should run good with no muffler... NOPE. While turning it over i adjust the govenor screw and i notice gas blowing out of muffler at about the same time I see gas coming from the backside of the engine. Well now i know i have a problem looks like the head gasket is blown. So what am I getting myself involved in now. to rebuild the engine. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

For help/advice, you may want to look through my rebuild thread. It could have gone either better or worse, but will at least give you an idea of what to expect.
