Default remove fan hub bolt

Thanks for all your info!! I have been able to take apart most of my engine so far...thanks to your threads, advice and links to manuals. Very informative, i can pretend to be a small motor mechanic.

I suspect a connecting rod issue as one of the pistons doesn't move.

My question is.. how to remove the nut on the Fan Hub? I tried a small metal stock in a hole in the middle of the 'plastic flywheel' and also the clutch bolt from the opposite side (but all it does is loosen that bolt). Rather not force anything or break anything, any help would be appreciated.

BTW- numerous threads about this issue....anyone wanting to remove the clutch, buy the proper tool instead of jerry rigging bolts and metal stock together- makes it soooo much easier. DIRTFT (do it right the first time)

sounds hokey, but seriously, the way I did it is with a friend crawling as best he could into the rear of the engine compartment, wrapping his hands and arm around the clutch the best he could, and hitting the nut with an impact ...

Just like the clutch puller, you need the right tool for the flywheel nut.
Either an air or electric Impact gun/wrench or a strap wrench to hold the flywheel while you loosen the nut with a wrench or socket.
If you have niether, I would stop by your local auto repair shop with it and ask if they will take it off for you.

If you have the head still on you can run the other piston to the bottom of the cylinder and feed a foot or so of 1/2" rope in the plug hole, put your wrench on the nut and turn until it compresses the rope and then remove the nut.

I used an Alternator tensioning tool on the clutch on the backside. It looks like a large C hook that you put a 1/2 ratchet in the end to rotate the alternator. I hooked one end of the C bar on the bolts and it held tight and made the job easy.
