Re: wont start 1983
when you say you pulled the "side plate" of the motor, did you also remove the flywheel, because the pulsar is behind it - also, how easy did the flywheel come off and did you replace the key in the crankshaft keyway to ensure the flywheel is aligned correctly?

Re: wont start 1983
it pulled off very easy, didnt have to use a puller.just took off the bolt an pecked lightly with a hammer an it came off.the pickup thing was in the middle of the setting and yes i did put the key back in,I got it to hit 2 times by spraying lube in the of the carb while cranking, but never hit again.

Re: wont start 1983
Could it be the spark?i noticed that the plug was sparking a yellowish its not blue like the g1 in the yamaha, the guy also said he changed the ignitor box, could he have put the wrong one on or is it the coil getting weak?

Re: wont start 1983
that's ALWAYS a possibility - generally the ignitors and/or coils just "go" BUT did you try a new plug? I've found that sometimes these 2-stroke plugs, no matter how clean, etc they are just get weak, it's a great $3 place to look - also, the plug wires on the stock coil sorta just twist onto a threaded post on the coil with a pressure fit, possibly you could pull it and cut about an inch off, then carefully rethread it to get better contact.
Grab a DMM, set it to the 20VDC setting and put the red lead to the + side of the coil and the black lead to ground then turn it over, if you're seeing 11V+ then your coil is getting enough juice, which would tell us your ignition system is doing OK to the coil at least, if that's the case then pull the 2 wires off the coil and test it across the terminals for ohms, you should get between 3-4.5 (factory is 3.4 but they vary) - report back when you're done, hot ***& it sounds like we're getting closer :) |

Re: wont start 1983
Ok guys,i checked everthing out,the coil was weak an i could not find one so i went to advance an bought one for a ford 12v put it on an fired right up an ran great.i rode this thing about a hour a it sounded like something poped an it quit,i checked everthing an it had blown out the front seal,im not talking about like blown it up but like blew it out of the casing, the guy had put new seals in it,do you guys think he did not have it all the way in?or do i need to put something on it to stick it in? Sure do thank everone of you for some good coaching.

Re: wont start 1983
ok,figured out it was the coil, put new one on an it ran perfect, drove it around about 30 minutes an it blew the front seal out of the housing,i put it back in put some thread lock on it an it works fine again.then about 30 minutes of riding it blew the back seal out of the housing, now i dont know where to thread lock the back seal-or where it is making to much vacum,is there a presure release or is this normal?thanks for any help.

Re: wont start 1983
sounds like the guy who installed the seals likely didn't take the time to clean up the casing where they press in and loctite them, or he may not have taken the time to ensure they were all the way in - which explains in a nutshell what you're going to need to do now :)
