True, I'm quite new to all this (plus, I'm old now), but....when I said the buttons looked OK, I realized later that I was looking at the driven clutch, not the drive clutch!!! Because I hadn't yet pulled the drive clutch!!

I am really nervous pulling the drive clutch off---with the puller. I cranked on the head on the puller and it is really, really tight..... worrying I'm gonna' break something or strip something. I'll wait until morning now and have a friend
help me out.
You just keep cranking on it (clockwise) until it pops off, yes? That's what I've been told. The bolt, of course, comes out left-hand thread.
The "Club Car guru" over at one of the shops says that as long as you're gonna' pull the clutch to install a new weight kit. He says they have much more problem with the weights than with the clutch buttons.
Cliff
Cliff, sometimes those clutches are a pig to get off of the crankshaft. I use a 50 / 50 mix of Acetone and ATF fluid in an old oil squirt bottle to penetrate the connection. You can google this if you like and this homebrew beats all the pb Blaster type products available if you don't have access to an impact wrench. I have seen the proprietary available clutch pullers shear the threads on occasion leaving a right mess to be cleaned up. Once you get the clutch off however and take a look inside there is really nothing to it and a good rebuild kit from a reputable supplier will have you home and dry in a couple of hours.
Call up Tom at Clutch Parts Plus if you have any concerns. He is the Guru of clutches.

Another trick is while puller is tight. Take a piece of flat bar and go between engine and clutch and give it a little love tap. Should be able to scare it right off there.

Stinger & Matt,
Bingo!
Finally realized that unless I went the "impact wrench" route, my progress removing the clutch was getting nowhere. Friend asked if I still had the 1/2inch drive socket set around---huge levers and long handles....well, using the clutch puller "bolt", and the added leverage I could now get, over the little 3/8 "home repair" socket set I had been using, ---BANG! It popped off.

The buttons (three of them) are very loose. Perhaps there's only a spring on one of them? I think the button kits come with springs for each?
I'm not sure the weights need replacing. I can see where they come in contact with the outer cover...but they are not loose, or worn.
They are tight.
Do I lube anything (or everything) with a dry lube before reassembling?
I'm gainin' ground.

The buttons should have a little movement, and there will be only 1 button spring!
The thrust washer may be worn, so you may want to replace that while your in there also!

Here's an example:

and DO NOT lube anything! CC drive clutches are designed to run without lube, wet or dry!
just clean everything up the best you can, and reassemble.

Lockman,
Thank you!
Although I really can't believe the weights need replacing, part of me says: Well, you're in there now...why not do it all?
Advice?
Yeah, the buttons seem to move quite a bit. I'm not sure, however, that the "chattering noise" (although brief) comes from those. It might be the weights hitting.
OK..no lube. That's what Stinger pointed out as well.

The "clanging" on my buddies 94 was just do to the worn buttons,
his thrust washer was worn, but not near as bad as Matt's! again... replace it if it needs it!

I have yet to see REALLY badly worn weights, broken... yes, but worn?... no!
but, that's up to you, on what you wish to do!

haha, For the record I ordered a new thrust washer from CPP. So anxious to drive this beast but still hunting for a rear body and the brace.... Since ive parked it in the garage I fixed the motor mount plate the old mounts were so worn the holes wore into ovals and the motor cocked to the right from the pull on the belt. welded the holes remilled them and put in new bushings, new drive belt, broke the driven clutch so got a brand new one, going to machine it this week, torque spring for driven clutch, 200 rpm spring for drive clutch, new clutch buttons, new thrust washer, drive clutch weight replacement. cant wait to romp this joker some. been sitting for 3 weeks due to the rear body being completly demolished from hitting a few 50 or so jumps. i really need to quit jumping it! haha
