Default 90s Club Car not running correctly

Hi guys,
I got this in a trade and it's just not running right. Here's what I know so far.

Serial Number plate was missing, I know it's a mid 90s DS gas model with the 290cc inside.

When I got it from the previous owner he told me it ran on and off would rev up then die out.

When I looked at the engine, I noticed the accelerator cable from the box was just dangling there. The nut had come loose. So I tighten it, and it wants to run, but just keeps stalling out.

I looked at a friends DS model and on the outside of the box, no threads are showing from the cable. So I copied how his looked. Mine runs like crap now. To the floor, I could walk faster. So I reversed it, just tapping the gas the thing takes off. After about a minute of driving, it stalls and will not start up unless its on full choke. I tried it right in the middle and I can hear the RPMs come up as I press down the peddle, but again, after about a minute of driving it stalls out.

Even on full choke it bucks and doesn't want to run.

I did notice on his DS model, his cable that goes from the box to the rear what looks to be gov lever there is a spring and a ball on the end of the cable. His cable has some play on it, enough to where the ball shows on the end of the spring. Mine doesn't have as much play.

How many turns should the nut on the acc cable be. Or how many threads roughly should be on the outside of the box? OR what am I doing wrong to cause this car to continue to stall out?

I hope this all makes sense, I'm just pretty frustrated at this point as I want it to run correctly. Thank you all for your time.

Knock on wood, after redoing the carb, replacing the lines, filters, etc, I ended up pulling out the Siphon tube and noticed it was clogged a bit. After cleeaning that out, so far so good. Going to drive it around a bunch to make sure that's all it was :) Lets hope it was that simple.
