G9 starter generator
I am trying to pull off my starter generator so I can clean the brushes. I am very new to this and don't know the correct way to get the belt off of the starter. It's real tight and I don't want to pry unless that is the only way.
Thanks |

Re: G9 starter generator
Loosen the bolt that holds it, right next to the belt on the top rear of the gen. Tilt it back to loosen belt. Remove belt. Remove and label wires on end (after you disconnect the battery!). Unplug field wires on front (small wires). Remove long large bolt under gen it tilts on to remove it. It should slide out one way or the other. If you have to take airbox out remove hose then two 10mm bolts on back lower corners, slide box forward about 1" and remove.

Re: G9 starter generator
I think you have to use a puller on that, I'd have to look in the manual. Manual does not say but there is a woodruff key in it. 35lb tq on the pulley nut and 10lb on the tension nut, 38lb on the long mounting bolt under it. It says use the primary holder tool to loosen the nut while still on the cart/belts on. That is a steel pulley right, think you can use a standard pulley puller with the jaws that grab it. The pic looks like a straight shaft a little larger than the nut threads, with the half moon key in it.
