Governor in rear axle
How many of you know there is a governor in rear axle/transmission case? Well I do now..after it locking up an not going forward on hole 14, We proceed on driving in reverse...(probably a good laugh for someone),,,,so we finish 15 PAR=PAR If ya care...LOL an go across road to 16 by parking lot. Reverse goes 10 feet from trailer. She didnt leave me stranded...so I moved trailer an winched her on with the winch I put on for snow plow...Glad I still had it on... I have a spare cart so I'll tear Bertha down an show pics as I go...Wish me luck...

Re: Governor in rear axle
Are you sure it's the governor that locked up? Usually the governor just limits the amount of throttle you can give based on engine rpm. As rpm increases, so do the forces of the governor. I wouldn't think it could lock up. I'm thinking there might be a problem inside the transaxle? Does the engine run but just doesn't go anywhere? Or will the engine not run either? I'd put it up on jack stands with the wheels off the ground and give it a try. You could manually spin the rear tires and see if something is locked up or if it spins freely.

Re: Governor in rear axle
I removed the gov. on my G8, starting on page 399 of the "G8 Club" if you care to see what you might be getting into. I'm with Slo, don't think its the gov.

Re: Governor in rear axle
Correct. The mechanisms inside the diff/trans case still spin as the cart goes down the road, however there are no linkages connected on the outside to limit throttle position. Simply disconnecting the linkages from the governor will accomplish the speed goal, but it won't do anything to the parts inside. The thought behind removing the governor mechanisms is to eliminate any possibility of breakage that may occur, at least thats the way I understand it.

Re: Governor in rear axle
Maybe a small spring to keep it from chattering.
