That reducer has no trigger wire. It is on all the time. You can switch the power using a heavy duty relay wound for 36 or 48v depending on your batts. If you need it to power off with the key, it is simpler to just get a reducer with a trigger wire. ScottyB here sells them.

All you need is a $5 relay and a $0.15 diode.

48v Relay:

1N4007 Diode:

This is the simplest way to do it, but some of those converters are not designed to be switched on the 48v side and could fail prematurely due to repeated uncontrolled filter capacitor charge cycles.

I think the best solution is to modify your inexpensive converter and transform it into a Constant and Switched +12v model by using the same components but wiring it as indicated in the thread below:

Either solution will allow you turn all of your 12v accessories OFF safely from the key switch.

Thanks for the info. One question, the switched 12v solution cuts juice to the accessories but your reducer is still on? That would worry me as I have had a reducer fry itself with nothing attached. Lucky I was there when it happened and cut the power to it. Not sure if it would set the cart on fire but with my luck,,,

The Converters with the trigger wire are also always ON, all the trigger wire does is enable the 12v output.

You should always fuse the converter +48v near the battery (power source), but they usually have a fuse near the converter as well.

Turning a converter with or without a trigger wire ON/OFF at the 48v input side could eventually blow up the capacitors inside the converter.

That's comforting! My converter was fused per Scotty's recommendation. It did not fry until I turned the key on.

So the trigger wire does not de-energize the reducer, it only allows 12v output? Why would you even need a trigger wire if that's all it does?
