First cart build- melex
Well picked up a mid 90's? Melex electric golf cart for $25. No motor batteries or electronics/wires. My plans are a atv or bike motor depends on funds. And I'm going to build a nice long travel kit up front. Not sure if I want to go with like a 3 link in the rear, independent, or a swing axle type with motor and all on it. I'm really hoping I can find a streetbike for cheap as a donor. I'm also considering strecting it so I can drop the front seats and steering down and back.
Here's pics of the canvas... uploadfromtaptalk1335540485073.jpguploadfromtaptalk1335540495335.jpguploadfromtaptalk1335540510908.jpguploadfromtaptalk1335540523317.jpguploadfromtaptalk1335540533814.jpg Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2 |

Me too always looking out for deals. For example I just found a running complete other than plastics 90cc quad for $80 I'm going to pick up.

Suspension almost done. Just have to make some upper shock tabs and finish welding the lower control arms and make spacers for the rear.

Heck of a deal for a starter. I have found some really good deals on CL too. that's how I found my upgrade parts cart for my Melex.
what did you use for your donor? the rear looks a little narrow, do you have plans to widen it? |

Re: First cart build- melex
a 5" spacer may be a little too much. that would be a lot of stess at the weel and flange. is it posible to swap the axle out to something wider? if the current one doesn't slide out or allow you to do that you could extend it. I would suggest using equal size round stock to the axle and some tubing and make an extension sleeve on each side. you can weld up the outboard side and then if you choose, dill a pair of dimples in to to the inboard side and just tap the tubing and run lock it in with some bolts. it could be welded instead but I am thinking about the ability to take it apart if need be for repair in case you need to say replace bearings or change the sproket. it will make the axle stronger and you won't have as much stress on the lug studs as you would with a 5" spacer.
