Battery gauge
I wanted to find out how to hook a battery codition gauge to the cart

Do you have a battery guage? It should come with instructions.....either way it's a simple install. One wire will go to your + on the battery pack and the other on the - on the battery pack. (not an idividual battery, but the full pack combined)

If you conect the gauge directly to the batteries won,t it put a draid on the batteries when cart is not in use?

You can always run the positive lead through the keyswitch, it will only turn on when the switch is on.
