SPEED UPDATE; 97 CC VGlide 36/48 conversion

HI EVERYONE
I promised some updates as I go along so heres the first

I did nothing to this old cart except change out the batteries and put in new ones from wal-mart...I installed six 8v batteries and they "DID" fit right in.
I used the same old cables and there are a couple of crusty terminal ends..but not totally horrible and not working. I still have the 36V solenoid in there for now.
Tires are still underinflated but not flat, I'd say 3/4 full of air all around.

Soooooooo..originally with old 36V batteries I could only get 12MPH with a good stiff tailwind
With just the batteries installed right from the store not charged up(no patience) I went 17 mph comfortably both ways on the same flat street which has a very very very slight uphill in one direction..and i mean slight.
SO I GAINED 5 MPH and the batteries are now charging up, hopefully theres no fire in the garage while I am posting this and grabbing a beer

What was the pack voltage for the first test?

Sorry I dont have an answer for that. The 9V in my meter was dead and i am impatient. I can only say the 15A charger is still on full tilt and its been 1 3/4 hrs. I dont know what type of charge times to expect from this charger.

Sounds like a 30%+ increase, wonder what you get going from 48 to 64?

Well thats great!!!! I put some 20x8x8 carlise tires and it helped a little about 1 1/2 mph no lift those tires fit. My first 10-12 charges took 10 to 14 hrs for full charge with 3 stage charger. I looked at buying that charger and they seemed to be deasent chargers. are you still going to upgrade to #4 wire I went this far and i might as well go to #4 and would like to see your gps #s after this Correct air pressure can give you another 1-2 mph Good luck. You were absolutely correct about the tire pressure...I put all the tires to 22-23 PSI and now I hold 18 MPH on flat and drop to 16-17(gps varies) on an upgrade. PS the thing takes off 10 time stronger. I cant wait to get it on the sttep uphill climbs out of the "underroad" tunnels we have for the cart paths around here

I am planning on installing 4 gauge wires but the terminals on the vglide switch looked a little "peculiar" in size. Hope they arent too hard to find. ANY SUGGESTIONS??

You say the 20x8x8 tires gave you and extra 1 1/2 MPH...hmmmm :)

what has everyone been doing about the cable ends on the VGlide switch when going to 4 gauge cables. I have been looking online and see some options but im not sure what to get. Hopefully someone here wil be able to answer this question also, or should I start a new thread for this question as well??

Upgrading buggies is great isn't it?

I just completed my upgrade from 36-48V on a '93 CC. I got the batteries from an older model CC who just had new batteries installed. I think the batteries are about 4 years old.

I upgraded all the current carrying wires in the cart to 4-gauge. Wiring upgrade cost me about $100. Original solenoid and original F/R switch. The bigger cables do make the battery case look uber impressive. I think the batteries were pretty well charged, but without charging them, I took it out on our totally flat streets for my speed test.

Before: 12 MPH
After battery upgrade only (with older cables) : 16MPH.
After cable upgrade: 16 MPH

I was a little disappointed that the cables didn't make any difference, but maybe in the long run they will be valuable. I'm waiting for my charger to arrive, so I can't really tell the state of the batteries.

Like Oxfordlawn says, the pickup is amazing. The buggy jerks forward when I nail the pedal.
