Default Starter generator slipping occasionally.

On my 2006 club car ds fe290 the starter belt is slipping. I hate to waist a thread over something so simple. But I have to ask before throwing money into it.
Typically when I first jump on it it fires right up. We'll I have it down at the coast right now and so it's been running ALOT. All day pretty much. Well today when I come to a complete stop and try to go again I hear the starter pully squeak/squealing against the belt. In my guess the engine has stopped on the compression stroke and is giving it trouble. I tried to tighten the starteright belt. Maybe I'm just not pulling back on the starter hard enough. So I guess that's my question. Does the starter need to be pretty darn tight? How tight in best explanation of tension should it be? Is it possible my belt is worn? There's no cracks or anything in it. Is there a trick to getting good leverage and pressure on the starter to get it even tighter than I have it? It's been kinda embarrassing today having to wave people on because the belt is slipping on mine and it won't turn the engine. Thanks everyone!

make sure the belt is not worn, the top of the belt should be even with or a little above the top of the pulleys, if it is below that it may be bottoming out and slipping.

I have a different motor than you but I always use a flat, mini crowbar to get the tension I need before tightening the bolts:

Mine is doing this as well with a new belt on it. The guy who helped get it running said its because of the high compression.

Is that correct? He really knows his stuff, but I owned a gas ds before for a short time and I don't remember it doing it.

Take the old belt off and go to the parts store and buy a new one
put on the new belt and tighten it pretty tight and you'll be good to go.
After a short time re tighten the belt as it will become loose due to seating into the pulleys.
then forget all about the belt slipping again for a long time.

Peace

Good choice

I'm a garage sale junkie and when I find a 50 cent or 1.00 lug nut wrench, the kind thats pretty much an L with a flat on the long end and a socket to fit the lug nut on the short end. I take that to the band saw and cut it off right at the bend and kinda round the end I just cut off so it won't be sharp and that is one of my favorite pry bars. Back when I used to keep a cutting torch around I'd heat the bend up and straighten them out for a longer pry bar. Good pry bar and cheap

Have a great day

Peace

Well you must have modified your cart for high compression then.

Club Car you have to really tighten the starter belt
