Well I still might just leave it hooked directly to the battery since it appears to function properly that way....can’t imagine it would have much drain on the battery as long as the light is hooked up to switched power

It obviously wasn’t getting consistent power from the fuse block

I would put some type of switch inline with it.

That’s an easy enough solution, for ease of install purposes, might just run the white wire to it as well

Update.....just in case someone reads this down the line

Bought an in-line fuse and rocker switch

Hooked it up to battery, hooked tach to switch, and mounted switch next choke lever

Spliced the white (backlight) wire into the headlight power wire so it’s only on when lights are on.

Everything seems to be working well. Headed to the beach in two weeks, so just in time!
