Re: 1996 EZGO TXT Intermittent Spark
The ohm setting on most DVOM's give you the maximum ohm it can measure up to.
For example, 2k (0 to 2000 ohm), 20K (0 to 20,000 ohm), 200K (200,000 ohm), 2m (0 to .002 ohm). If the resistance is greater than the range setting, it will give zero. For better accuracy, you want the setting closet to the actual resistance. The manual says set your meter to check these ezgo coils to 200 ohms. I took a close look at yours and you do not have that setting. I don't think your coil is the problem but I could be wrong. Also when testing coils they may ohm good but not run good under loads. I really never use the ohm reading on one because I have a coil that will fire an ezgo but when you give it the gas it backfires out the carb. This was a new aftermarket coil probably made in China. Installed OEM coil and the problem went away. Put after market back on and again it backfires back out carb when giving it gas. When you put a test light on the coil lead does it light the test light when spinning it over ? But you a cheap test light. It will come in handy when working on these things. Also you need to get hold of you a meter that will go down to 200 ohms. Again yours says 200k which is a big difference. |
