Default g16 drive belt too tight

I am new to the forum and to golf carts and am having an issue with my g16 cart. my drive belt looks fairly new and measures 1 3/16" but it is so tight I cant even push my cart. The belt is not touching the sides of the drive clutch it is just tight on the shiny center shaft. I can't find any reason why it would be so tight or how to correct it. I have looked at several other carts of different brands and none of them are this tight. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Does it seem to drive fine? Do you have the FR switch somewhere in the middle when trying to push?

It seems to drive ok except the belt doesnt look like it is going all the way up the drive pulley when full throttle. I did notice that the belt is extremely stiff compared to me friends ezgo. I have not put the FR in the middle to push it I didnt think it had a neutral.

Yeah If you kinda wiggle it back and forth in the middle you can hear/feel it come out of gear. As for the belt, might be hard to say without seeing it

It also wants to start moving as soon as i press the gas pedal it takes a good amount of brake pressure to keep it from moving forward.

Also for the belt, Its hard to get the wrong one. not saying it isnt wrong but almost all 4 stroke yammies can use the same belt. not all but most

Thank you drift240se I was starting to think the oldn owner put a HD belt on it since it was so stiff and wanted to keep its round shape. I pulled it off to examin it and noticed when i bent it backwards that it crackled. i am going to start with ordering a new belt. I think this one might be old and it has gotten hard and maybe a little brittle. i am hoping a new one will be more flexible and not wanting to fight to stay round in shape.

I think thats a good idea. Gboost makes good belts and also don plowman at plowmans carts has a great belt and he is a forum sponsor. give him a shout. yes the belts will cost more but you will be happier. longer lasting by a lot and less slippage.

Thank you I will try plowmans since he seems to have an amazing reputation on here and many other places. I just wish i knew about him before i ordered parts from other places that i won't mention by name.

Use only one of the following 3 belts, accept none other

-Yamaha J55-G6241 OEM drive belt (no aftermarket)
-GBoost Kevlar DBYAJ57H
-Plowmans Kevlar hd

I repeat, NO aftermarket "stock style" belts, NONE. They are like playing the lottery with both quality, and even getting the right dimensions.
