Wowzie on that gas cap, imagine how hot the metal gauge rods were getting in the gas. I think you got lucky when it quit......
I'd replace that gas cap in case it leaks and/or melted the vent hole closed |

You guys ain’t a shittin! Scared the living hell out of me knowing it was that close to the can and I got that lucky..thankful for that metal heat guard!

Definitely will replace the gas cap, exhaust gaskets, and get the exhaust welded back up before I try to drive it again. Getting started back up on this project since it overheated last summer. It was turning over when I put it away. Now when I go to hook up the battery it’s not turning over like it’s dead and something keeps shocking me..melted wire somewhere? Any other things I should check before getting this thing to run again? bought a brand new muffler and gasket and welded the main pipe so it has a nice snug fit now.
