Precedent belts
I'm changing mine out this week. Is there any tips anyone can give me?
I watched a YouTube but it was on a DS. Hopefully it's a similar process. Thanks |

Re: Precedent belts
Same process. In fact if you have the Kawasaki designed engine, it's the same part# belts as the DS.

Re: Precedent belts
Thanks anyway to do it yourself with the strap lifting the starter?

Re: Precedent belts
For the starter generator belt I use a medium length pry bar, the one like a big flat blade screwdriver with an angle at the flat end. Slide it under the exhaust pipe and between the mounting bracket and the body of the starter generator to tension the belt with my right hand while I snug up the adjustment nut on the back side with my left hand - usually with a ratcheting wrench. Precedents are a bit tighter space than a DS, but it can be done.

Re: Precedent belts
Tight is an understatement. I had to go through the back access to get to the adjustment nut. The starter wouldn't move down in the bracket and all 3 bolts are very loose, so I gave up on it tonight. Going to give it another try tomorrow after work.

Re: Precedent belts
I'm about ready to take the starter off to do this simple job. It will not move down in the bracket. I can use my pry bar and move it up, but it won't drop down.
The adjustment nut is to the end of its threads, and the two others are finger tight. I can't see anything binding it. Maybe my bracket is bent or something. |

Re: Precedent belts
A follow up in case someone else has this issue. I was going to take the starter off, and noticed the bolts holding it on were different. The one on the right was longer than the other one. Once I removed it, the starter dropped down.
You never know what has been done to a used cart. I took it for a spin, and the belt slipped on startup. I guess I didn't get the tension tight enough with my pry bar. It should be easy to fix now that I know what I'm doing. |
