Default G1 flywheel nut removal

hello! Question #1 :Anyone have a suggestion on how to loosen the large nut in front of the flywheel ? My problem is trying to figure out a way to prevent the shaft from turning. The bolt attached to the pully( opposite end) has some kind of a " nut clamp" ??? surrounding the nut?, which prevents getting a good grip with a wrench or socket. I was able to bend back two of the tabs that I guess keep the nut from loosening? however, I still can't get a good grip and cannot figure out how to remove it. What are other options to lock up that shaft? I need to remove the flywheel from 2 old G1's without removing the gas tank. My goal is to swap out the stator ( magneto).
Question # 2: After removing the flywheel, what preventative maintenance can I do while it's off? What should be inspected? cleaned? What should I do before removing the stator? I read something about timing???? Thanks

I think I just hit mine with an impact if Im not mistaken and spun the nut off. Then you need a puller to remove the fan. While in there just clean up all the dirt. As for timing just put the plate back where it was originally.

The bolt on the clutch end has lock washer on it, it gets bent into place each time it’s removed. I use a piston stop tool for both removing and installing the nut, should be torqued when reinstalling. You’ll also need a steering wheel style puller with the correct length bolts to pull the flywheel once the nuts off.

These can be rented at your local AutoZone and you get your money back when you return it. Inspect the tool when you pick it up to make sure it’s not damaged and they try to hold you responsible. Again you’ll need the correct length metric bolts for the puller as the ones in the kit won’t work. You do not need to remove the fan from the flywheel to remove it
