Default G2 no reverse, grinding

Hello, my Yamaha G2 gas suddenly has no reverse. Has about 6 hours on a new shifter cable, now when put into reverse it will just rev and a grinding sound coming from what seems to be the rear end. Forward works fine and the lever appears to be getting a full throw in both directions. Just looking for what my next step should be for diagnosis and if it needs a new rear end, where would my best bet be to find one? Could it be converted with a rear end from something else?

I don't know this machine but if the rear end shift is cable operated from a lever my guess would be cable adjustment is likely needed.

Yes the whole assembly was changed. Both cables and the lever attaching to rear end. Is there an adjustment that can be made on the rear end of cables or just at the shifter end? Worked fine at first, then a handful of takeoffs it had trouble catching reverse, and now will not grab at all.

Perhaps you have the forward cable to tight not allowing full engagement in revese??

Thanks for the replies. My throttle cable broke this morning so while I had everything tore back apart replacing that I played around adjusting the shift cables and eventually got it. Maybe some kind of break in stretching on the cable? Forward and reverse both fully tightened and shifts smooth and engages every time now.
