85 Yamaha G2 No reverse

My little Bailey is sick.All of a sudden it fails to shift into revere No its not the cables sticking they were replaced new 4 years ago and are properly adjusted. Shifts forward just fine.No warning of gears grinding or weird noises.Just poof reverse is gone.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If the shift lever on the trans is actually moving all the way into reverse, then you likely have internal damage on the transaxle. Did you manually shift the lever into reverse position? If I suspect there is an issue, I remove the cables and put channel locks on the selector and manually move it back and forth while spinning the tires, while its up on jack stands of course.

Good advice Thank you I don`t think the it goes into gear totally . I did manually shift it from forward to reverse. I did have to roll the tire on jack stands back and forth and it would going into reverse. But when I changed the cables a few years ago it would go back and forth forward to reverse easily. So something is preventing it from going into reverse properly.. Perhaps the shift fork????
