Default G16 Governor Shaft?

Not sure if I'm calling this the right name or not. Is there a replaceable bushing in the governor shaft. Mine has a lot of slop. When you step on the gas it lifts up and tilts to the side? If there is a bushing is it difficult to replace?

The G16 transmission does not have a replacement bushing in it but you can update it depending on your mechanical ability. The G-22 transmisson has a replaceable bushing. You will have to drill out the hole for the bushing to fit in the G16 transmission and replace all the G16 govenor parts with the G22 parts. It is a little tricky because the bushing has to be a tight fit but if can be done. I have done about 15 different G16 and G20 cars this way.

Thanks for the info chompy, not sure I want to take that project on though. I may just see if I can find a different assembly to replace that one with.

Is there any way you could fit a bushing into the housing and reuse all orginal parts for the G16 and not update to the G22? Would be easier than rebuilding the entire thing.

If I ever get the time, I'm gonna go in there and remove it. Just silicone the hole.

Putting silicone on the spot would help stop leaks but would do nothing to stop the shaft from slopping around. Still would like to know about bushing idea and a part number and where it could be gotten
Thanks

There are not that many G22 parts to put in it. There is a govenor fork, 2 circlips, a plastic washer and a seal and no, once you install a bushing the govenor securing screw in the transmission cannot be put back in.

WE looked ours over and decided that we would not install a new bushing into the case. We put a new shaft in along with the e clips and plastic washer and seal.

However we have another cart which we will be drilling and installing a bushing. The shaft is a 3/8 dia. and from mc master carr we got a steel bushing that has a 3/8 ID with a 1/2" OD. We plan on drilling the hole to fit the bushing, lock tite the bushing in place and install a new shaft, etc.

We feel we will be able to use all the original parts and have a replaceable bushing for the future if needed.

I'll keep people posted on the progress.

I know this is an old post but was wondering how it went shrike? I gathering up parts now and don't want to mess anything up. For some reason there isn't really any information on changing out the bushing.
