Thinking of upgrading from blown engine
I have a 1984 Marathon 2cyl with a blown engine. I'm not sure about rebuilding the engine or upgrading to something with a little more power. I'm open to 2cyl or 4cyl. Any suggestions?

Re: Thinking of upgrading from blown engine
I just picked up for free, a brand new 6hp subaru from a gas powered air compressor. Looks like it should fit in the compartment. Just not sure if it is enough horsepower. All I use my carts for is to run around my neighborhood. It stays on the street most of the time. Does anyone think it would work or am I wasting my time with this engine?

Re: Thinking of upgrading from blown engine
sounds like a lot of work for very little return ... The original 2pg engine will run about $220 for a complete top end rebuild as well as crankcase seals, and providing your crank is good (which generally they are) you'd have basically a brand new motor for that $ and a good, solid afternoons work (maybe two). Keep in mind, too, that those engines run backwards for reverse, so fitting another engine in there (along with the large list of fitment hassles, clutch adaptation, etc) will net you a cart that you will have to push anytime you need to back up ...
Sounds like bad JuJu to me |
