Default 88 EZGO two cycle engine binds up going forward

I have a 88 gas EZGO. The engine is binding up when going forward. Can back up and then go forward for a very little distance. When it binds up it will not turn over at all till you back up a short distance. Could it be a bearing in the motor or would it be something in the belts. The motor sound like a rattle in the front or maybe a bearing rattle.
