G9 starting problem stumped
I am having a problem getting this cart to run again. Ran great for a few years but when it was ran out of fuel hasn't been right since. The compression was 165 when checked, it has spark, getting fuel, put a used carb on it, drained and checked tank. It will crank forever with the choke on and doesnt even smell like fuel after 5min of constant cranking, but fuel is flowing to carb. Im just stumped at this point, was thinking maybe a coil. It used to run great when full power applied but wouldnt idle just popped. Now i cant even get it to fire up. Also tried pouring some fuel in the cylinder and nothing, didn't even stutter. Not sure if its weak spark or lack of fuel. The newer plug was all black was a little wet and smelled like fuel. Also put new battery in it for a shot in the dark. Any info appreciated.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Is it turning over the correct rotation? We have a member here (Caj. I won't mention your name) that had the same problem. Starter motor was wired backward and turned the motor the wrong direction.
Only other thing, is valves not working. Take off valve cover and see if push rod slipped off rocker arm. Could be battery wired backward. |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Spray a little carb cleaner in the carb and see if it briefly starts (be careful this sometimes results in backfire/flamage). If it starts you have a fuel problem, if not you have a something else problem.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Im having a similar problem. Drained old fuel and put in new, cleaned fuel pump and carbs. Getting what seems to be good spark and have good compression (155 i believe it was). When i remove the fuel line from the carb and turn it over, fuel will spit out. I put the line back on and nothing happens. I replaced the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb with a clear line and as soon as I put the line back onto the carb it stops pushing gas.
The air box has been completely removed but I choke it with the choke as well as my hand but the fuel doesn't seem to be pulling into the carb. Any suggestions!? Im experienced with sled motors (2 stroke) and what not, but I just got this cart and its quite new to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
I forgot to mention...I have sprayed starting fluid into the carb and it will start for a few moments, until that runs out.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Mert, I'm gonna say the needle valve in the float chamber is stuck closed. Or clogged.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
It's in that bowl on the bottom of the carb. The float is in there as well, and has a little arm that is attached to the needle valve. I would remove the carb. from the car, there is a 10mm bolt on the bottom, un screw it and remove the aluminum bowl carefully to inspect the float and look for the needle valve.
Remove the valve, inspect for wear, then spray carb. cleaner into hole, and make sure it sprays out another hole,, so you know its clear. Carb cleaner should come out the fuel inlet (fuel line to fuel pump) |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Ahh, ok...I have already cleaned that all out. I completely disassembled the carb, sprayed with carb cleaner and then sprayed each hole with the compressor.
I get some gas into the float bowl..just doesn't seem to be getting pulled (or pushed!?) out of there and into the carb throat.. |
