Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Did you remove the main jet, or at least spray cleaner through it, and did it come out another hole in the venturi?

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Then there is an emulsion tube I think in the bottom. Kinda looks like a jet, but when unscrewed, its long in length. That oraface has to be clear as well!

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Yes, main jet was completely removed, sprayed the jet as well as the hole, checking to make sure it came out the other end. Pretty sure the carbs are completely cleaned.
Does the fuel get sucked out of the bowl or is is pushed into the carb throat from the fuel pressure created by the fuel pump? |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
It gets sucked out of the float bowl by vaccum through the venturi.
It been 150 yrs, but fuel gets sucked up into the emulsion tube, mixed with air, and aaaa can't remember what happens next, but somewhere along the line gets sucked into the venturi, and into the motor. Maybe someone will come in here and straighten me out. Crash will know or Steve Rand. Smallblock will know, but he's a busy man! |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Just went through the carbs again. checked to make sure everything was in working order and all jets and passage ways were clear. Reassembled, re installed, and seem to be getting fuel into the carb but just seems like the fuel isn't getting sucked through the carb and into the combustion chamber. And if it is, the motor is nowhere near popping off.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Do you think you can smell fuel in the venturi? May be hard to tell with all you have done at this point.

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Hold your finger over the fuel line that goes to the carb. There should be 3# of pressure, (a small amount of pressure, pushing out on your finger).
Your sure crank rotation is correct? Your sure starting fluid made it run? 155 # compression is a tad low ( but for a car that hasn't run in a long time, it could come up after run). Adjust valves to .004 cold. Put air cleaner box back on, as they require it be on to run correctly. Could plug be fouled? Compression, fuel and spark... it has to run! Set idle mixture screw to one and a half turns out, (to start, then adjust after warmed up). Throttle cable opening the butterfly? (broken throttle cable)? |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
Completely sure it was running off the starting fluid. had exhaust coming out and everything. In fact at one point it popped off on its own for a few seconds and then went dead again. About enough to run off of what was in the float bowl it seamed. I think a large part of the problem could be the airbox. Unfortunately the cart was given to me without the box so I think ill end up going the k&n route, but its a bit hard to dish out the $$ for it if you dont know that's going to cure the problem. Guess im going to have to get it eventually anyway.
As far as compression goes...i think my tester is low because my sled showed low compression too and that runs like a champ!! |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
did you read my last 2 sentences? Throttle cable, and idel mixture.
And I think it would run at least 60 seconds on a float bowl of gas. |

Re: G9 starting problem stumped
And Mert, you did use freah gas, and a new filter at the base of the tank? Or at least know that there is a filter in that cap that screws on to the bottom of the tank.
I would replace fuel lines (1/4" and vaccuum lines 5/16"). I would replace all of that. Fuel pump works on pulses from the crank case, so good vaccuum needed there. |
