use a hydrometer and check each cell

i found one cell with the level below the plates. i topped it off and will let it get a good charge tonight and see how much it helped tomorrow.

. . check top of terminals for a letter/number code stamped into it . . . letter is month, ie A=Jan, B=Feb, etc and numeral is year, ie 0=2010, 9=2009, etc . . .

did a test run this morning, no change. started out with 50.9 after charging last night. going up the hill it pulls down to around 46.5 +/- .02 and really slow. load checked each battery and not really that much difference in them. most were around 8.3 or 8.4 to start and averaged between 7.7 and 7.8 going up hill, none i don't think stood out as really weaker than the others. i would expect a bigger difference if one or two were really weaker. checked the date on the batteries and it is january 2009. so they are more than two years old like i was told, looks more like 3 1/2 years old. i don't have an hydrometer so i'll need to purchase or borrow one before i can do that test. thanks for all the input.
