G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
I'm almost finished with my G8 Clone build with the Predator 420cc motor. My air intake consists of 1 1/2" PVC fabbed up to the stock black air box that comes with the motor that I have modified, then routed over the stock air box location from the factory. I installed a K&N type filter there. My problem is that I'm assumeing it's getting to much air and not enough fuel. So before i start doing things to the carb, I just wanted some clarification on exactly what's the best way to fix this issue. I'm assumeing it's gonna need to be re-jetted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
Since your making the air inlet, can't you just restrict the airflow more? Thus making it leaner

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
Well that is a good point. I did have the 1 1/2" pipe connected to stock air box and their wasn't really an issue but now that I've done away with it and just connected the K&N type to it, it's harder to start and bogs on acceleration. It may just be easier and better to put the stock box back in like it was.
The stock air box on the Clone, I just removed the cover and foam filter and the opening feeding the carb was roughly 1" which I left the same but fabbed the 1 1/2" to that opening so I didn't think it would hurt since I didnt change that opening. So I thought even though I've got more air coming in to that point that it would restrict it since I didnt change the opening on the factory air box that came with Clone. |

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
And the K&N will allow more air flow

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
Well I guess my question would be, do you think it's worth the trouble of messing with the jet or just put factory box back in since their really wasn't an issue. Not sure why I even changed other than I can never leave anything alone lol. It accelerated good before and GPS at 30mph while doing an adverage speed of 25-27mph depending on road.

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
There is a sponsor on here that deals with clones. I'd call them to get you in the ball park. I know I'd jet to it, rather than restricting air. Don't remember, but there comes a time when you might have to use different emulsion tubes in carb, but I'd have to go back and read up on all that stuff again. Start with learning how to read the spark plug.
Also, talk to G1-G9 (Tom). He's done a number of these. |

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
Ill pull the plug and start there. I was wanting to re-jet it in order to keep the new setup but wasnt sure what the stock jet size was so i could buy a few bigger jets. also wasnt sure where to buy different size of jets for the Clone. Ill see if I can make a few calls and ill ask G1-G9 also what he has done.thanks

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
I'd use the stock air, run it, then check the spark plugs.
Then start with small adjustments to see if you get any improvement |

Re: G8 Clone Build Fuel issue
Yea your right, probably would be best to use the stock box first then go from there. Thanks again
