faster in reverse
So if my 2002 workhorse w/295 will pull easy up a hill in reverse but has a very hard time getting up the same hill in forward. Is this maybe the belt slipping or the clutch.

Re: faster in reverse
well all things considerd, it's easier to pull than push and when they start running poorly it'll go places backwards that it can't forwards. have you done a tune up and general maintenance to the cart. a fouled plug will do what your saying, I guess it could be the belt, if it's less than 1 1/8" wide than it'll soon need replaced.

Re: faster in reverse
I do keep up with all the matainance pretty well. I did adj. the valves with your diagram on valve adj. I used the feeler gauges and it ran alot better. I think I should try the 1/4 turn back and see if this makes it run better.
It has never pulled good up hill but did ok I thought. I'm new to carts so I really dont know what is good. I did the adj the valves 3 month ago when I got the cart and just noticed it pulled harder in reverse. It does smoke a little. The plugs were change at the same time of adj valves. The plugs do look like there running rich and could have a fouled one, Ill replace them with the new adj. on valves. |

Re: faster in reverse
remove the carb and clean it out. See if it will help. If you can do a compression test, you may be low on compression and need a rebuild or rebuilt engine. Check the oil level, if its too much i have seen them smoke and be down on power. I put oil level at 1/2 b/t full and add.
Also check you clutches, makes sure they are operating properly. |

Re: faster in reverse
I had a 89 Marathon that I couldnt get on the trailer in forward but had no problem in reverse. I pulled the cylinder and the piston, this is what I found,
Bottom line, it needed the top end rebuilt. It just didnt have the compression. Like Ruredy said, it's easier to pull than to push. So, I could get it on the trailer in reverse but not in forward. Check your compression. Good luck |
