Steering wheel
How in the world do you get the steering wheel off? I took the cover off and removed the center bolt and washer but I cant get it off? I don't want to bang on it too hard. I need to get it off to get the front body off the paint.
Anybody? |

Re: Steering wheel
usually you need a small puller as the steering shaft is tapered. You will probably see two threaded holes on the top of the steering wheel center section. Thread your puller bolts in there and the main bolt of the puller goes onto the top of the steering shaft. The steering wheel should pop loose as pressure is applied.

Re: Steering wheel
Leave the nut on for a few threads and smack it a few times while pulling hard on the wheel. a few shots of PB blaster beforehand might help too.

Re: Steering wheel
No need to thake the steering wheel off to take the front body off for paint. Just grab the 4 drink holder and give it a "tug" upwards. That will allow you to get to all the 10mm head nuts that hold the rubber trim on, then remove the Yamaha emblem and the plate and screws behind the emblem. As for the steering wheel removal, I've never seen a puller that could do the job. I use PB Blaster and use a center puch on the shaft dimple and give it a few hits. Then its a rubber mallet or hammer on the strongest "web" portions of the back of the steering wheel. Good luck

Re: Steering wheel
Me... the PB blaster over night. Then leave the nut on a few threads, then I sit in the seat, get my knees under the steering wheel, and pull up with knees while smacking the steering shaft center with a punch and hammer! The nut stops the wheel from flying off and hitting me in the face!
Then use "never seize" when you reassemble! Good luck! |

Re: Steering wheel
Dude it took me two days to get my steering wheel off, finaly i had to take it loose from th bottom at the universal joint and put it in a vise and use a winch on a 4-wheeeler, used a whole can of pb blaster but the grant gt wheel and the chrome colume was worth the trouble, just keep trying. oh yea i know a guy that busted his mouth pullung up on his and it broke loose so be carefull. Good Luck

Re: Steering wheel
Well, I tried the puller and pulled it right through the steering wheel, I saw that coming, then the hammer ended up busting some fins off. So I just got the saw out and cut it off.
It was that or set the whole thing on fire. I have two other carts to rob the steering from so I dont feel s bad. that thing is a pain |
