Default Re: G2 engine issue.....

The one I replaced with the clone the cylinder looked perfect. I didn't have tools there to measure wear. It ran well just burned oil. I should measure it, since it has never been done before it is possible the bore is good enough to ring and hone though in my experience that never works out that well. But then it could be sold as a running engine that does not smoke, I'd do bearings and seals of course. The valves looked ok, like a lapping would do. Not looked into the total cost of doing that vs selling price.

FYI guy's, many times I've seen just the oil rings wear out causing these Yamaha's to burn oil. They still had great compression. A hone and rering has taken care of many "smokers".

I know a guy had one rebuilt for that and that shop only charged under 400 to do it, so I am very sure that is all they did.

Far as honing I've often had them have more blow-by. They smell while a new bore burns cleaner, this in both cars and small engines.
