Re: G9 barely turns over
1st, rotate the motor some and try it again. If it spins over you have a bad starter.
2nd, remove both small wires from the solenoid and use two jumpers from the battery to the two small posts to test the solenoid. If it spins over you have an issue with the start circuit like key switch, pedal start switch, micro switch, corroded connection. Or the ground wire on the other small post. |

Re: G9 barely turns over
Rotated the motor, same ole thing. Jumped the solenoid from the battery to the small posts and it ran good. There's still a little squeel before it takes off but I'm assuming that's a loose belt.
Started going over the starter circuit and noticed the key switch had a bare wire under the protective plastic. Hopeing that was the issue I just recieved the replacement and still no luck. Any other suggestions to help narrow down the problem or is it a matter of replacing the pedal start switch/microswitch hopeing I get lucky? |

Re: G9 barely turns over
Coste, if that were my car, at my house, I would tear down the starter, clean it out, put new brushes in it. Needs to be done to be reliable anyway. But I think it has a bad solenoid. Only thing, that low voltage bugs me. Or scares me. Maybe have battery load tested.

You need to determine what part of it is the problem, 1st, use your jumper wire from the neg battery post to the ground side of the solenoid (small post) only and try it, if it spins the grounded side of the circuit is bad or corroded/dirty. If not check all of your connections on the positive circuit, from the battery through the key switch to foot pedal switch, to solenoid, make sure to unplug and clean all bullet connectors along the way. With the key off, unplug both wires from the pedal switch and jumper them together, turning the key on should spin the motor if the switch was bad. If it is the issue, try WD-40 in the plunger end of it to loosen it up before you buy a new one. |

Re: G9 barely turns over
Went thru and started looking at all the grounds, I must have had cheerio's for breakfast because the ground bolt coming out of the starter gen broke off. I finally tracked down a replacement bolt, didn't want to buy a whole new brushing holder. Now she's turning over and sounds good but barely chugs along. I'm not sure if I'm getting closer or farther from a solution, but atleast it turns over.

Re: G9 barely turns over
Ok, now for the next confusing part. when you say spins over but just chugging along is the engine actually starting or the starter turning it over and moving the cart. Sometimes hard to determine.
How about roll the big drive belt off of the driven(back clutch) and remove the belt from the cart until we can get the engine to start by the pedal and rev up. Hang in there, we'll get ya going . |

Re: G9 barely turns over
Thanks Crash. Thinking about it you are right, it was the starter turning over and the engine wasn't kicking in. I just pulled the spark plug and it was soaked in gas. Grounding it on the engine I still get a spark so I'm guessing the plug is still good. Also pulled the fuel line going to the carb, gas flows when the peddle is pushed. From reading the other post I'm guessing I need to check for compression?!?

Re: G9 barely turns over
Soaked in gas means fuel with no spark or flooded a good plug.
Sometimes a plug will fire out of the head but not once under compression. Got a new plug you can try in it? with no choke? |

Re: G9 barely turns over
Changed the spark plug and she started to take off, first in reverse only. Took some tweaking of the carb but she's running. Still has a tendency to slow down once in a while or a backfire every now and then but I think some more adjustments on the carb and she'll get there. With it in neutral and the seats up it run perfect, it's only when were crusing around that it acts up a little but seems to be working its way out. Thanks everyone for the help.

Re: G9 barely turns over
Well your getting close.
runs good in neutral (no load) but not while driving (under load). The engine needs more fuel when under load to run the same RPMs so If you are sure the air cleaner assembly is 100% sealed with no air leaks I would say the high speed jet is just a little clogged. If you remove the carb and do a good soak in carb cleaner and reassemble you should be good to go. |
