Default Yamaha G9 Gear Noise

I have been having trouble with my 91 gas yamaha g9. when it put it in forwards and hit the gas I hear a sort of gear grinding noise like its not catching into gear all the way. Reverse works perfect. It will eventually go but you have to put the pedal down for alittle bit. Could the forward gears be worn out? anyone have any ideas on what would cause this? it just started all of a sudden

I'm gonna guess frozen cables, lub like you said. But also what Ranch said. Might be a good time to read this site, and perform some maint. The more you do, the better your car will run!

I agree with Mike on this. Sounds like the cables are sticking and not allowing it to go into forward all the way. Spray them down really well with WD 40 and work them back and forth. If this doesn't help, check the little selector on the front side of the axle to make sure it is moving back and forth correctly. You can also adjust it if needed.
