1990 3pg Marathon - Reeds
Girl Mechanic has been (with a lot of help from a diesel mechanic friend) getting the farm's 1990 Marathon Spirit (3pg Robins) running. A little neglect, a little abuse from a room mate, a little flood, a lot of idle time.
We've replaced piston, rings, carb, fuel pump, lines, plug, gaskets ... pretty much you name it. We are down to timing from a backfire that blew a crankshaft gasket (???) ... but he's got that :-) And the reed valves. The originals actually had a rock stuck in them when the engine was disassembled!! so i found a set in FL from Chris Carson's Marine Service and Supply (CCMS REED VALVES FOR EZGO GOLF CART 3 G PN.EZ3PG) ... but they do not seem stiff enough? The fuel is blowing by them. The originals were metal, but they were chipped and had space between the cage and reeds. So, oh great hive mind ... what do i need to do? I really need my GoGo back in service!!! |

I had to go back 14 pages, but I knew it was here somewhere. Post # 13.
https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/show...=154625&page=2 Your backfiring is probably throttle rigging. Get the reeds taken care of first. |

Re: 1990 3pg Marathon - Reeds
The nice young mechanic helping me with my GoGo feels the reeds are not entirely the issue ... but rather the "Reeds are not sitting due to the erosion on the block" ...
Anyone have a thought? Remember we did find a small rock stuck in the reeds when it was disassembled. Thank you!!!!!!! |
