Default reed switch

So I was just curious if the reed switch in the charging receptacle is basically like a fuse that protects the system from power surges? I have a 99 txt series cart .

my understanding is- it keeps the cart from moving when the charger is plugged in. They seem to go bad from time to time, often bypassed.

DVR is correct. It is more correctly called a safety interlock. Mine was glass and reminded me of a blinker bulb in a set of miniature Christmas lights.

DVR is correct.
It is a safety interlock to keep you from driving the cart while it is plugged in.
120v and 36v power surges from the charger are handled by the charger and it's internal fuse.
There is no protection against 36v power surges in the cart unless you have a large 300 amp fuse on the battery pack.
Accessory items like lights, horn etc. are fuse protected by the 10/15 amp fuse down by the charging receptacle.

Right on thanks guys exactly what I needed to know, mine went bad and for that price I think we are looking at a bypass.

Some people get into the habit of running the recharge cord thru the steering wheel and then into the cart, To prevent anybody from accidentally driving off with the charger plugged in....
