Default Which Clutch is BAD?

How do you tell which clutch is bad I am working on my 99 EZ-GO and when youo take the belt off and rev it up the front clutch moves but how do you know if it is bad or the back one?

Without a belt the front (drive) clutch will pull together. As for the rear clutch grab each sheave and twist or push and pull them opposing see if theres tension. There should be pretty good tension if the spring is good. As for the buttons you will need to take it apart and check them. Thats when you need a special tool or about 4 arms and a pet monkey to get it together. Hope this helps some.

It is usually the rear that needs repair. Buttons wear out and then the ramps .... No body ever does any maintenance on them. I have yet to take one apart that is still good

I just had to warranty a 6mth old 28* clutch. The ramps were completely destroyed it woudl hang up mid travel. cart had no power. The customer had put about 25 hours on teh new clutch.

I would say you need a rear clutch.

I take them apart all the time by myself and put them together. Yes every one I take apart is destroyed inside. they are tough, but not impossible. The only thing i see go wrong with the eng (drive) clutch is wear patterns in the faces.
