Default ezgo 2 stroke rpm ?

have a quick question should i be getting more rpm from my 1982 2 cycle engine it had fresh rebuild a year ago runs good starts good , i did put some weight on this cart with the cab .... it gets up to about 1500 rpm and stays there. is it time for a big block? maybe a bbq time on the muffler?

You should be getting more than 1500 rpm. The manual says do not exceed 5000 rpm but with bigger tires I get around 4000 which is plenty fast. Burning out your muffler will not hurt but you could just loosen the muffler bolts to create a half inch gap, if it runs better then your problem may well be a blocked muffler. If not then you need to look elsewhere.

An obvious question. Did you install the rev counter? Is it set correctly? Maybe your speed is ok but the rev counter is runing at half rate.

Is your govenor still hooked up?This will definitely slow things down. Also, check your throttle cable adjustment,if its' not opening fully, you won't get the rpm.Check your timing, also, check your fuel-filter(be sure its' in correctly, seen em' backwards before and it causes headaches. My 85' with 22" tires runs 23mph and its' stock.Hope this helps.

The govenor is an arm on the Driven-Clutch(rear-axle) with a cable that hooks to your carb.If it is hooked up,and not adjusted the cart will be very slow.If you are playing in the woods,or elsewhere and have mods such as 22" or larger tires, remove the govenor-cable.They install them at the factory for "golf-use" to limit speed.I'll have to look up the timing, but i think you line up the marks, but not definite(its' been a few years).Hope this helps

OK if you are seeing 10 mph at 1500 rpm that ties in. I get about 20 mph at 3000 ish rpm. There could be many issues here but as Pachanga says the governor (if fitted) will show these symptoms if badly adjusted. Look for a lever that is pushed by the driven clutch. As the clutch expands it pushes the lever which forces the throttle shut. Once you see how it works you will see how to adjust it. That said the next check should be for a clogged up muffler. Loosen the bolts and take it for a run

Good Luck

Dave

i really appreciate the help i just went out to take a look and found no cable to the engine other than the choke and throttle...so maybe its the muffler i,ts the original to the motor didnt do anything to it since we bought i will try losing the bolts up and running it , will all this weight effect rpm? (cab and plow?)
