Default 2 Cycle Fuel pump insulator problem

I have a 1984 2 stroke ez-go. The fuel pump insulator when bad on it and it runs real rich. I am trying to find a another fuel pump insulator and i can not find one anywhere. OEM part number of it is 14430-G1. Many places have the fuel pump insulator gasket, but nobody has the insulator itself.

My question is. Do i really need the insulator? Has anybody run without it?

Thanks

Kevin

My one also went bad but I took the pieces and glued them together. The most important thing is that there should be no air leaks in that area, leaks will kill your engine. I was rather lavish with the use of Mega Gray gasket in a tube and a year later it is still working fine.
With regard to running without the standoff, I don't know as I never did it. That said if you cannot repair or replace it what do you lose by trying to run without it? Get some gaskets in there to prevent metal to metal contact and some sealant (make sure you don't block the vacuum orifice) and let us know what happens.

Mine broke also when I did the top end job. I made one from plexiglass that I had that was the same thickness. I ended up installing the fuel pump without it though and have not had any problem with the pump working as it should. Of course I still haven't gotten mine to run at top end speed yet either. Still have the same problem I had before the rebuild but as for the operation of the fuel pump without the spacer I haven't noticed any different in the volume of fuel to the carb. I just cut out a gasket from cork gasket sheet and ran with that.
