No Spark on 1998 Gas Medalist

I'm trying to fix my friends 1998 EZ-Go Gas Medalist, however we're stuck on something. It has a Robin Engine model EH29C and we have the right spark plugs and we're getting gas to the plugs but they aren't creating the spark. While checking the wires from the battery to the coils we found something that we cant figure out. When we were checking the red (hot) wire to the coil it caused the starter to turn over however the current is not consistent so it doesn't turn over every time we check it. We're unsure if its a bad wire and the coil is not getting enough juice or if some other problem is wrong. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping its not a bad coil.
