Partially seized engine
Yesterday, while driving my Yamaha cart, the engine suddenly stopped. The generator still tries, but the engine appears seized. I can rotate the clutch about a full turn to the rear and it stops. After doing that, press the gas, and it starts and then "cling", seizes again. Since I am overseas, want to see if anyone has had this happen, if so, what in the motor broke? Just trying to be sure before I order anything. Also, no garage area, so not crazy about breaking the motor down and have it sit that way for a month until parts arrive. First question folks will ask is the model cart. Unfortunately, it is the Japanese "Turf Liner", so...not sure what engine. I have enclosed a photo of it if someone can possibly I.D. it for me.

Re: Partially seized engine
Oh my!! You might try to get a hold of Moes, in the G8 club. I think he has a car close to that. It was a Japanese car. not American.
Sorry, I was being a smart A$$. But now realizing where you are from, I apologize! Any of those motors that I suggested will work. But you will have to switch all electronics from your old motor over to the new motor that you might get. That's in very good shape by the way!! |

Re: Partially seized engine
How do you know what's broken if you don't take it apart and inspect it? You can't just order random parts. You need to disassemble the engine, look at all the parts, and order what you need. How do you know the engine is salvageable? There could be some major damage, and without an inspection you won't be doing yourself any favors.

Re: Partially seized engine
Well....ya kinda learn to order with a "one shot, one kill" mentality. Living on an island that is 7km x 2km teaches you that. Some items take up to two months to arrive here from the States. One of the drawbacks to island living. Fortunately, found a shop here on the island that rebuilds these motors and has parts and some donor motors on hand. Thanks for the input.

Re: Partially seized engine
Your cart is a G15 or G17, made in Japan. The G15 has a G14 engine and the G17 has a G16.
You can replace the whole engine with a G14 engine or have it opened and identify the parts needed to be repaired or replaced. |

Re: Partially seized engine
Look at the back of the engine below the exhaust pipe for a number followed by cm3. If it is 285cm3, then it is a G2/G8/G9 motor, if it says 300cm3, then it is a G14 motor. If you find a good used motor, switch all your ignition parts on to the donor motor. Although they look the same on the outside, the crankcase is different between the two engines, and will require parts to match the crankcase.
